I've known Bruce for about three years now as a colleague and, over time, as a friend. I bought this book the last time I saw him and figured it would be an entertaining read based on his personality, but wasn't sure how much I would really enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised, as the characters portrayed throughout the story are more complex than I expected at the beginning, and the range of emotions felt by Eddie and his friends only gain momentum as the book progresses. I thought the ending was fantastic, both on the side of happiness and a little bit of revenge, and have recommended this book to a number of friends since completing it.
Bruce Jones' first novel is a great read. I found myself replaying my own high school, college, and work life experiences when reading about Slow Eddie's life. His band of friends, his students, and his coworkers are well developed characters who you feel were a part of your own life. Eddie's convoluted love life, or lack thereof, is a theme that weaves its way through the entire book.
Very sweet story with several wonderful characters and lots of familiar references to the Cape.
Engaging and sexy from the start. Halfway through, wondering if Bruce can pull off resolution of all the issues. And will the climax be satisfying or heart rending? Readers will not be disappointed! What a great movie this would make, with Tobey Maguire as Eddie.

Bruce Jones concocts a terrific story that is at once page-turning and filled with insights as Cape Cod and a colorful set of compelling characters come to vivid life. With a sense of humor and an eye for telling detail, Jones captures the nuances of youth and its passing. His characters face challenges that we can all understand. I couldn't put the book down as the story neared its finish.
