If you're interested in reading this book, I'm guessing you've already read the first book in this trilogy Am I Normal Yet? (by the way, if you haven't, I definitely recommend it) and are familiar with Lottie's kick-ass character, whose story we follow through this novel. What's a Girl Gotta Do? gave me a chance to not only dive back into the Spinster Club stories, but also form an opinion about the trilogy as a whole.

"No one is ever as cocky as they seem."

Charlotte Thomas aka Lottie is a very smart and knowledgeable seventeen-year-old girl, who is very much in touch with her sexuality and is not afraid to speak her mind about everything she likes and everything that is bothering her with this world. The confidence she exudes is arguably uncharacteristic of a teenager, but I fell that the author wanted to crate a character girls look up to, if they cannot (yet) identify with her. What surprised me about Lottie, although I already knew that she would call out any sort of injustice, is how clearly she recognises what is right and what is wrong, because sometimes there is just nothing in between. Having said that, her story points out how people prefer the easy choice opposed to the right choice. The main theme of this book is centered around feminism and, as the author herself says, only a portion of what gender inequality entails is discussed in this book. My favourite aspect of the main character is the fact that invincible and genius Lottie gets frustrated, exhausted, disappointed and even questions herself, something that has never been even hinted at in the two previous books, not because I have anything against her, but because it is simply impossible for a person to be unbreakable, untouchable and above everything ALL THE TIME. In a way, her story brought back memories of Evie's experiences. Her resistance against her parents, however, to the degree that she can in a way manipulate them into accepting any outburst or unreasonable behaviour of hers, was admittedly a bit troubling for me.

The plot of this book is rather explicit on the back cover of the book, so I'm not going to elaborate further. Apart from her campaign and the introduction of some new characters, there are no major plot twists. In my opinion, this is a character-driven story with a plot that is intriguing enough to keep you going. Besides, the main point of this book is to follow Lottie's journey through her eyes and ears. Even though I could not fully relate to her, i was not put off by that, because i found it a great opportunity to follow a story from a point of view that is different from mine.

The structure of the whole trilogy was very cleverly executed,as far as i am concerned, with the first book introducing the institution of feminism and focusing on Evie's mental health, followed by a more conventional contemporary centered around familial bonds and a love story since Amber's commitment to the concept of feminism has been evident, in order to reach this third book, which deals with feminism in its essence (don't get me wrong, you get the fluffy side of a contemporary as well).

The maturity of all the characters, Lottie's stubbornness despite her intellectual capacity made me skeptical, but i cannot deny that Lottie is unwavering for a reason, and that this is a very educational and important read. I also really enjoyed the growth of other side characters in this book and how it displays the importance of the milieu.

All in all, I absolutely recommend this novel and look forward to reading the Spinster Club special, because i cannot say goodbye to these characters just yet.
I've been going through a phase recently of reading YA books that I read and then think "God, I wish this had been around ten years ago". In "What's A Girl Gotta Do?", we get that wonderful mix of a fun, heartfelt story with a serious message to it—it's a book that I have no doubt would resonate with pretty much any girl in the world. The beauty of Lottie's plan—to call out every instance of sexism—and the beauty of how it comes across to the reader, and how draining it becomes for her, is that it very effectively highlights just how common sexism is, and just how much we take it for granted. As a young woman, I should react when someone makes an unwanted comment towards me as to how I'm dressed—but I don't, because I think of it as normal. The danger comes in our complacency of it, just as with other issues in today's society such as racism or homophobia. This is a must-read for every teenage girl—in fact, for any girl, of any age.
